Cornerstone to Renovate West/Romig Library

January 20, 2017

Cornerstone was selected by the Anchorage School District as Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) for the design and renovation of the West High School/Romig Middle School Library, now known as the Instructional Media Center (IMC). The IMC is a 32,705 SF building shared by West and Romig that serves approximately 2,700 students at the Turnagain campus. The proposed plan increases the building size by 2,350 SF. Work will include demolition and precision renovation of several areas that results in accessibility, code, seismic, and systems upgrades; an improved exterior thermal envelope system; and the addition of six new classrooms.

On Sunday January 2016, the IMC was damaged by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that closed the facility for several weeks while a crew cleared debris and made emergency repairs. This project will make permanent repairs and upgrades that allow the building to serve Anchorage students safely for decades.

This project is included in the Anchorage School District’s 2017 bond proposal. Please vote to support schools on April 4, 2017. Learn more about School Bonds YES! here.
