Description

Cornerstone successfully performed Pre-construction Services and completed follow-on Construction for demolition with HAZMAT abatement, renovation, and new construction in this 50,000 SF neighborhood school that serves about 375 students. The project increased the building size by approximately 8,200 SF. Site work included parking lot and playground accessibility improvements. Code and safety concerns were addressed site and building wide. The main entry of the school was relocated with an addition to provide a secure vestibule and administration reorganization according to ASD Ed Specs. Thermal envelope upgrades included exterior walls and windows, seismic performance of the building structure to bring it up to code, and ADA upgrades. Renovations included replacement of mechanical, electrical, and system controls. The project added space to classrooms, the art room, administration, and storage, and removed operable walls and enclosed classrooms. School remained operational throughout construction, which was completed in August 2017.

This project was constructed in an occupied school, which required extensive coordination to minimize impacts to students, staff, and the public. Our experience working with school administrators to orchestrate construction efforts around academic and after school activities will be a major benefit for Willow Crest. We know how to plan for systems transfers or temporary utilities so changes are seamless. Our ability to function effectively with limited laydown, staging, and storage ensures a smooth construction process.
